Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
Rev. Paul reported Wednesday morning that Hurricane Irma will bring some of its rain and wind on "Thursday afternoon (9/7/2017). We are expecting it to be very strong--we will have to go inside. We have bought some extra food and water to store." He went on to explain, "The government has ordered 'no school' for this Thursday and Friday, then we will see what it is like on Monday."The Prophet Isaiah wrote about the Lord being our defense in Isaiah 4:5 "...a refuge and shelter from the storm and rain," and in Isaiah 25:4 "..a shelter from the storm...." We pray for all those impacted by serious storms, such as those in Texas and Louisiana, as well as those who will be impacted by Hurricane Irma.
Elanie is enrolled and taking classes at an university in Santiago, Dominican Republic. We thank the Nord Est Haiti Lutheran Mission (NEHLM) Liaison Ben and Rev. Paul's wife Cliney for going with her and helping her settle in. There are some dear Christians in Santiago who have helped with many questions about living in Santiago and have helped her find a good deal for housing. Rev. Paul said, "We are praying for Elanie to study well and to take care of all her things."
The Haitian government is trying to be more involved with the operation of children's homes. There has been abuse of children and abuse of goodwill charity that proves to be scams. Rev. Paul reported that last month 257 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) were shut down. Rev. Paul commented, "There are many requirements for good reasons because of wrongs, yet these requirements are very demanding on resources." NEHLM continues to "walk with" Rev. Paul and help as we are able to care for people, be good stewards of what we receive, and foremost, promote the proclamation of Jesus Christ.
