Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
“Camp Discovery: Jesus is at Work Through Us.” This is the Vacation Bible School (VBS) that we took to Haiti in early June, then presented here in La Grande, Oregon, June 22-26, and, Lord willing, will use again at Faith’s Outreach site in Enterprise, Oregon, the third week of July. I often have the Bible stories and songs running through my mind. The overall theme is caught up in the title. NEHLM, Rev. Paul with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Haiti (altar and pulpit fellowship with the LCMS), is delighted to witness Jesus at work through us in this ministry. The “us” includes each one of you as you support this ministry in the variety of ways available. Praise God for choosing and using you. Rev. Paul reported the good experience of the team from Dixon, California. They were able to present a mini-VBS at the church plant in Baja. This is where Faith’s team worked in early June to pour the floor and finish the walls. As they were with the people and saw the need for benches for the church/school, they presented the ministry funds that were donated by a Kiwanis Club in Dixon, California. What a variety of support this mission receives! The Dixon team also helped with some finish work on the front, outside walls of the girls orphanage.
Rev. Paul has applied for his travel VISA. When it is in hand, there are plans to have him go to Miami for a follow-up appointment with the surgeon who operated on his eyes for glaucoma. Until then, Rev. Paul is making efforts to see an eye doctor in Cap Haitian. He does understand the importance of protecting his eyes with sunglasses.
They continue to get nourishing rain showers and their crops are doing well. They are harvesting plantains and will be harvesting corn, beans, bananas, and cassava soon. This will give the children healthy work as they are out of school for summer break.
